Anthropological Characteristics of Korean Crania

Abstract
Metric and non-metric dimensions of Korean adult crania were investigated to identify the morphological characteristics of skulls of Koreans in 190 cases. The various cranial indicies indicaled. that Korean crania were classified to brachycranic, high skull. The height-breadth index showed medium crania among various nations. The cranial capacities of Korean were 1,470¡¾107 cc in male and 1,317¡¾117 cc in female skulls. The orbital indicies indicated the slight tendency that chaemaeconch(broad orbit) is met with more frequently on the right side, whilst hypsiconch(high orbits on the left side. The clustering analysis represented that the facial flatness of Korean crania is closely related to those of the northern Chinese, modern Japanese. However, non-metric dimensions of Korean crania were more closely related to those of Mongol, Kazach.
